About
Literacy Roots was created by Tegan Henry, a teacher and graduate alumni of the Sonoma State School of Education. I chose to pursue a Master's degree in literacy because everyone deserves the opportunity to explore their imaginations, develop their writing voices, and cultivate a lifelong love of reading and writing.
This blog was developed as my graduate thesis project to focus on research-based literacy development strategies for elementary students. It also serves as a platform to reflect on how children construct language and meaning to make sense of the world, and how these observations inform my teaching practices. As a result, I have found that writing about my teaching events encourages me to pay attention to my actions with more clarity and definition. It also makes me more mindful of the insights of my students.
I deeply value teacher and student collaboration efforts for effective teaching practices. Please feel free to leave a comment or send an email with questions or ideas to: soulyluna@gmail.com
Sincerely,
Tegan Henry
This project is dedicated to my dad who taught me to follow my heart and create for a living.
